I wanted to do a painting that was primarily monochromatic: i.e., white, in this case. The skulls were various animal skulls that I had found, or had been given. The title has a double meaning, like many of my works. In this case, it can refer to something that has expired (died), or as the white text in the painting references, the act of breathing out - which has the opposite meaning.
