this painting was started several years ago, and went through a few different phases. at one point, it the painting was probably done, though for some reason, i didn't think so, and sanded most of it off, and started again. there are several layers of the text swirls in the background, in part they serve as decorative motifs, as well as serve as a "man-made" contrast with the birds. the title four elements calls to mind earth, air, fire and water. elements also refers to a design term.
